ABOUT US
History of Otukpa Forum
Otukpa forum was formed in Abuja in the year 2001. The idea of the association was hatched by three Otukpa sons where they met in Mr Ogwuche Matthias’s house in Maraba. They were Hassan Igoh, Ted Lawani and Ogwuche Matthias. Mr Igoh had during that visit in Mr. Ogwuche’s house emphasized the need for Otukpa elites residing in Abuja to form an association that would promote unity among members and to take advantages of being in the Federal capital to influence and draw developmental projects and programmes to the community. Mr Igoh did not stop here but put his words into action by visiting prominent sons and daughters in their offices and homes to sell the idea of the association to them.
It paid off with positive response and a meeting was scheduled in Mr Adache Simon’s house in
Area one, Abuja. The pioneer members that attended the meeting were Igoh Hassan, Matthias Ogwuche, Ben Agada, Ladi Agbo, Rawlings Agada, Tony Adejo, Adikwu Igoche, James Akor, S.P. Ojonugba, Ted Lawani, CPT. Ocheme and the host, Mr Adache Simon.
In the meeting, the aims and objectives of the association were discussed. The need for a
constitution and its registration with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) also came up for discussion.
As membership drive continued to yield positive results, it became obvious that Mr .Adache’s house was no longer adequate to host members.
One of the members, Mr Adejoh Tony, came to the rescue and offered a hall in his office at the cultural center, Area 10, Abuja. It was there that things started to take shape. The first election that saw Mr. Ojonugba as President and Mr .Ogwuche Matthias as his vice president was held there. All officials to run the affairs of the association were also elected.
Since there cannot be any association without a name, the association was named Otukpa Forum.
However when the name was taken to C.A.C for registration it was rejected. Instead Otukpa Progressive social club (AKA) Otukpa Forum was suggested by C.A.C which was eventually adopted and Forum was registered with the registration no RC: CAC/NO/32463.
As the Forum continued to wax stronger, it was shifted from Cultural Center and began to be held in the residence of members who so wished to host it.
It was in this process that one of the prominent members, Chief Sylvanus M. Itodo offered his Boundary Hotel free for the Forum meetings. The meeting has been holding there with intermittent requests from members to host in their residence.
Today the Forum can best be described as E-forum because it is on the information super high
